December 2008

Dear DAWGS family,

What a year it has been! AGAIN!! We have rescued 4,217 animals since we began in 2003 and have found great homes for 3,653 of them. This month we have had pet adoptions every weekend, at Petsmart. This last weekend was the best, with 31 adoptions!! During those pet adoptions, several of our previous adopters dropped in to show us how their adopted dogs and cats were doing. Our Christmas picture is of Bosley and Boscoe, two little pits that were adopted from us three years ago. These precious boys are doing wonderfully in their new home! Don't you love Bosley's grin?! The cute little elves helping Santa are three of our student volunteers: Hannah, Tessa and Avery.

Thank you for being part of our journey and bringing joy to the lives of so many animals. We wish you and your family the happiest of holidays. All our love always, Diane, Mark and everyone at DAWGS

P.S . The following is our rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas, based on some of our success stories made possible this year, because of you and your support. Thank you so much!!

This is our Gus. He came to the shelter after the Fourth of July fireworks two years ago. Everyone called him "our nanny." Whenever we had "problem puppies",Gus would mentor them and take great care of them. Gus was finally adopted by a wonderful couple and is living the good life in Amarillo, TX.

Waldo (also shown in the red coat to the left) had been at the shelter for such a long time. He was patiently waiting for the right people to come along and finally they did. An amazing family from Ohio came to help at the shelter. When they left could not stop thinking about Waldo and came back to get him, traveling 2,000 miles each way! Today he is so spoiled and so happy. Our wish is for great homes, like these, for all the deserving animals in our care.

**Please don't think we forgot the cats..... 41 were adopted this year. Despite all our efforts, we just never could get any good photos of them ( they are such slippery little fellas sometimes!!)

Preston is a beautiful Golden Retriever we had found one day coming home from the shelter. He had been wandering for several days and was starving. He lived with us for over a year and one day we took him for adoption and his new family fell instantly in love! He is now a couch potato and loves playing with his new buddy.

Cori is a little corgi mix who had lived at the shelter all his life.He was orginally found hiding in a hotel room when he was six weeks old and had been at the shelter almost four years. Today he is living the perfect life, cuddled in the arms of his new family.
