Winter 2011
This year has been really a difficult one for everyone here at DAWGS. The winter was brutally cold and the summer was blistering hot and not much in between. The students, who founded DAWGS in 2003, have now graduated high school and are out in the world, making it a better place, with compassion and love for animals. In their place, we have a dedicated group of students from Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Colorado College who have been volunteering at the shelter throughout the year. We have had some heartfelt success stories of animals needing help. Read more.....
Summer 2011
Several months ago we wrote about the freezing cold of 30 below and were so wishing for warm weather. Well, we should be more careful what we wish for!!! It is sooooo hot in Texas; highs of 113 degrees and it is only July. Read more.....
Spring 2011
We, in the panhandle of Texas, cannot wait for spring! It was such a brutal winter for so many people across the nation and we certainly had our share here. We had snowstorms, ice storms, and freezing fog, but our particular favorites were the snowstorms followed by wind chills of 30 BELOW ZERO...it was soooo cold! Thankfully due to your tremendous help and support, our animals were safely nestled in their warm, hay-filled houses waiting for the weather to pass. Read more.....

All of us here at DAWGS would like to wish you the merriest of holidays and the happiest of New Years. This year has been very difficult with the number of animals needing homes and the worsening economy, but, through it all, with your kindness and generosity, we have continued to save animals and find them new homes. Over the last seven years we have rescued 5,398 animals and found homes for 4,689. Your support has literally saved thousands of lives. THANK YOU! Read more.....

Fall 2010
We are so glad summer is finally over and the cooler days of fall are finally here. The summer was filled with really hot days and lots of summer storms that came through the area during the night leaving a wake of water everywhere. The most common attire at the shelter, as in years past, is shorts and tall boots--quite a look! Everyone is doing great and we are now getting ready for a big change in weather: winter! June 2010
In March, we celebrated our seven-year anniversary and what an adventure it has been! Thank you for being part of our journey and helping us save so many precious lives. Because of your support, we have been able to continue our efforts to provide second chances to thousands of homeless dogs and cats, seven ferrets, a baby deer, a baby goat, two raccoons, two dwarf rabbits, three doves and an iguana. To celebrate their lives and this seven year journey, we wanted to share our timeline of events, only made possible because of you--your kindness and your generosity. Read more.....

Spring 2009
Spring came to Dalhart, Texas, in the form of a horrible blizzard the first weekend of April. We had snow drifts over 7 feet tall and two feet of snow. The dogs were stepping out of their pens and running outside our exterior fence. The storm began on Friday with a “white out” and only got worse from that point on. Our entire area was completely stranded. On Saturday, it took us two hours to travel six miles to the sanctuary. Once we got there, we found many of our dogs were trapped in their igloos and doghouses. Read more.....
December 2008
What a year it has been! AGAIN!! We have rescued 4,217 animals since we began in 2003 and have found great homes for 3,653 of them. This month we have had pet adoptions every weekend, at Petsmart. This last weekend was the best, with 31 adoptions!! During those pet adoptions, several of our previous adopters dropped in to show us how their adopted dogs and cats were doing. Our Christmas picture is of Bosley and Boscoe, two little pits that were adopted from us three years ago. These precious boys are doing wonderfully in their new home! Don't you love Bosley's grin?! The cute little elves helping Santa are three of our student volunteers: Hannah, Tessa and Avery. Read more.....

It was autumn before we knew it and there is still so much to be done before winter! But here's some good news! With all your great help and support, we have our first little weather-proof barn up and running (complete with electricity, running water and plumbing).

THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH for helping to make this possible. Read more.....
